“Static Stretching” –Proven effective with sports training.
For over 30 years, sports training professionals have promoted stretching to decrease the incidence of injury. Experts cite the following mechanisms at work during static stretching are responsible for preventing injury:
1. Changes in passive viscoelastic properties decrease muscle stiffness.
2. Reflex muscles experience inhibition that indirectly decreases muscle stiffness and reveal changes in viscoelastic properties.
To ensure full effectiveness it is important that static stretching be administered by a licensed physical therapist sports professional who is familiar with the body’s muscle fibers and knowledgeable of the mechanics of the target sport used by the individual.
Whole body static massage has shown to be effective in a concentrated period of ten-minutes therapy sessions.
